Make an appointment nowWhat is CO₂ laser skin resurfacing?
CO₂ laser treatment, also known as laser skin resurfacing, is a non-surgical method of skin renewal that specifically removes superficial layers of skin and stimulates the skin’s regeneration process. Controlled ablation promotes collagen production, resulting in a firmer and smoother skin structure. The procedure is ideal for patients who want to reduce visible signs of aging, scars, or uneven skin tone.
Ablative CO₂ laser and Fraxel laser (fractional method)
Our private clinic in Duesseldorf offers two types of CO₂ laser treatment: ablative and fractional lasers (also known as Fraxel lasers).
Ablative CO₂ laser: Deeply effective skin rejuvenation
This deep-acting method achieves intensive results, especially on wrinkles and scars, and requires a recovery time of around 7 to 14 days. During this phase, the skin is initially very red and swollen and may form scabs. After a few days, natural peeling and regeneration begins.
Fractional CO₂ laser: Gentle skin renewal for less downtime
With this gentle method using the fractional CO₂ laser, only micro-areas of the skin are treated, leaving the surrounding skin untouched. The recovery time is shorter, at 3 to 7 days, and the redness and swelling are less pronounced – ideal for patients who prefer gentler skin renewal.
We tailor both procedures to your individual skin needs in order to achieve optimal and long-lasting results.
Areas of application for CO₂ laser treatment: wrinkle reduction, scar reduction, and pigment spots
CO₂ laser treatment is versatile and suitable for treating wrinkles, scars (e.g., acne scars), and pigmentation and sun damage on the face. The targeted removal of the uppermost layers of skin stimulates collagen production and the formation of new skin cells, resulting in an even skin texture and a more youthful appearance.
Laser treatment procedure in Duesseldorf: From consultation to aftercare
CO₂ laser treatment is tailored to your individual skin needs and consists of three steps:
1. Preparation: During a one-on-one consultation, our doctors will examine your skin type and discuss your expectations in order to determine the optimal intensity of the treatment. If necessary, we will recommend a special skincare regimen in advance to prepare your skin optimally.
2. Treatment: The actual treatment takes about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas of skin being treated. This laser skin resurfacing method is applied specifically to the areas of skin to be treated and removes the uppermost layers of skin in a controlled manner. Before starting, a local anesthetic is applied to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.
3. Aftercare and care: After the treatment, the skin requires special attention. It is important to keep the skin moist and protect it from the sun. Special care products support the healing process and prevent infections or irritation. Our doctors will give you detailed care instructions so that your skin can regenerate optimally.
The entire process is designed to make you feel safe and well cared for. Our team is always available to answer your questions and guide you through the healing process.
Results and healing process
CO₂ laser treatment leads to a refined and firmer complexion on the face, which appears smoother and more even in the long term. This improvement in skin appearance is often visible after just a few weeks and is enhanced by collagen production, which continues after the treatment. The healing process and the visibility of the results depend on the intensity of the treatment.
- Initial results: After the healing phase, the skin structure is noticeably smoother and fresher. Depending on the method used (ablative or fractional CO₂ laser), the skin may be reddened for a few days to weeks, which is part of the natural regeneration process.
- Long-term improvements: CO₂ laser treatment stimulates collagen production, resulting in a lasting tightening effect. The skin continues to improve in the months following treatment as new collagen is built up and the skin texture is continuously refined.
- Healing time: After ablative CO₂ laser treatment, downtime is usually around 7 to 14 days, while the fractional method offers a shorter recovery time of around 3 to 7 days. However, even after visible healing, the skin remains sensitive and slightly reddened for several weeks. Strict sun protection and gentle care are particularly important during this time.
CO₂ laser treatment gives you long-lasting, natural results that leave your skin looking fresh and youthful.
Risks and side effects
After CO₂ laser treatment, slight redness and swelling are common, and sometimes scabs or flaking may occur. These side effects usually subside within a few days to weeks. To minimize the risk of pigmentation changes or infections, careful aftercare with UV protection and special care products is important. Our doctors are available to advise you during the healing process.
Best season for CO₂ laser treatment
Fall and winter are ideal for CO₂ laser treatment, as UV radiation is weaker during this time. This reduces the risk of pigmentation disorders and promotes optimal healing of the skin. Since the skin is particularly sensitive after treatment, high UV protection and gentle care are crucial to achieve the best possible results.
Costs of CO₂ laser treatment
The cost of CO₂ laser treatment varies depending on the scope of treatment and individual skin needs. At our clinic, the price for a session starts at €900. The exact price depends on various factors:
Treatment area: Larger areas of skin require more effort and therefore incur higher costs.
Intensity of treatment: Ablative procedures that reach deeper skin layers are usually more complex than the gentler fractional method.
Number of sessions: For certain skin goals or deeper results, a series of treatments may be recommended, which also affects the overall cost.
We are happy to offer you a no-obligation consultation at our clinic, during which we will analyze your skin and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs. This will give you a transparent cost estimate and allow you to make an informed decision.
We will answer your questions in detail during a non-binding initial consultation.
