Liposuction:

Liposuction permanently removes excess fat cells, for example from the abdomen or hips. However, excessive calorie intake can lead to an increase in volume in the remaining fat cells. We therefore recommend that our patients maintain a balanced diet and regular exercise even after such a procedure.

If you no longer feel comfortable in your own body or stubborn areas of concern refuse to disappear despite exercise, liposuction may be able to help you. Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, but rather a targeted treatment for localized accumulations of fatty tissue. Depending on the severity of the condition, more extensive treatment of several problem areas throughout the body may be necessary.

Fat removal contours the body. However, liposuction is not a suitable alternative to dieting. If you are aiming for general and permanent weight loss, you should also consider changing your lifestyle and eating habits.

1. Consultation

First, our specialists will talk to you in detail about your expectations and personal ideas at our clinic in Duesseldorf. We always consider alternative treatment methods (such as Coolsculpting, lipolysis, BodyTite) and explain their advantages and disadvantages to you. Together, we will then create an individual treatment plan for you.

2. Liposuction

On the day of treatment, we mark the defined treatment areas before the surgery begins. The procedure can usually be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. At your request, or if several treatment areas are planned, the surgery can be combined with twilight sleep (analgesic sedation) or general anesthesia. If large amounts of fatty tissue are to be removed, an overnight stay in the hospital is recommended for postoperative monitoring of your circulation.

The tiny incisions made for liposuction are closed with a fine suture. The stitches can be removed after about 10 days.

Our specialists use two modern and particularly gentle procedures. The WAL and PAL techniques differ as follows:

Water-assisted liposuction (WAL):

In the water jet procedure, the fat is loosened from the surrounding tissue by a water jet, allowing it to be removed more quickly and gently.

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL):

First, a special solution (tumescent solution) is injected under the skin, which causes the fat cells to loosen and the blood vessels to constrict. A finely oscillating cannula is then used to suction out the fat deposits in a particularly gentle and even manner.

Small scars will result from the incisions. The incisions will be made on the fat deposits to be treated and will be a few millimeters long. Care will be taken to ensure that the incisions are positioned in areas that are as concealed and inconspicuous as possible. Suitable inconspicuous locations include skin folds, for example. The small incisions will heal very well after about six months and will be barely visible.

The success of the treatment also depends to a large extent on the patient’s behavior after the surgery. The final result can be assessed at the earliest three months after the procedure. We attach great importance to compliance with our follow-up appointments and our recommendations:

• To relieve pain and reduce swelling, wear the compression garment consistently day and night for a period of 6 weeks.
• Refrain from physical activity for 6 weeks. Strong vibrations can promote the accumulation of fluid in the fresh wound cavity (seroma formation). Refrain from visiting saunas and sunbathing for at least 4 weeks.
• Make sure you drink enough fluids, especially in the first few days after the surgery.
• During the first 10 days after the procedure, muscle ache-like pain, swelling, and bruising are completely normal. We will provide you with adequate pain medication and thrombosis prophylaxis for the period after the procedure.
• Shower as usual and massage the treated area daily with a skin care product. From the second postoperative week onwards, regular manual lymphatic drainage can significantly accelerate the reduction of swelling.
• Allow yourself plenty of rest and sufficient time to heal.
