Eyelid lift
A more open look thanks to upper eyelid lift & lower eyelid lift
Our eyes play a crucial role in the expression of our face. A tired look caused by drooping eyelids or bags under the eyes can quickly have a negative impact on our otherwise positive appearance. An upper eyelid lift or lower eyelid lift can help you regain an alert and fresh facial expression.
During upper eyelid surgery, excess skin, a small amount of muscle, and, if necessary, some fatty tissue are removed from the upper eyelids. Since the scar runs along the eyelid crease, it is barely visible after a few weeks. In the case of swollen lower eyelids, excess skin can be removed by making an incision at the edge of the lower eyelid, the muscles can be tightened, and protruding fatty tissue can be skillfully repositioned. This results in a scar that is barely visible later on.

Make an appointment nowUpper eyelid lift – a minor procedure with a major impact
The skin around the eyes is particularly delicate and sensitive. Small wrinkles often appear here at an early age. Drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes also contribute to a tired, worn-out facial expression.
An eyelid lift can raise the upper eyelid and make the eye appear more open. A previously restricted field of vision is then restored.
Your eyelid lift is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, or under twilight sedation if desired, and does not require a hospital stay. During the procedure, the excess skin, which usually extends beyond the outer corner of the eye, is removed. In addition, excess sagging muscle tissue and, if necessary, fatty tissue is removed from the upper eyelid. The wound is sutured with a fine thread in the skin. This can be removed after just one week. The scars from eyelid surgery disappear completely in the natural crease of the eyelid.
You should be able to resume your normal social activities in just one to two weeks after your eyelid lift. Then, drooping eyelids and a tired expression will be a thing of the past!
Lower eyelid lift – for radiant eyes all around
Surgery on the lower eyelids can also be performed on an outpatient basis. Local anesthesia with light twilight sleep is usually sufficient for a relaxed surgery. However, the procedure can also be performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis if desired.
During lower eyelid surgery, excess skin is removed via a very fine incision below the lash line. Fat tissue and muscle are used in lower eyelid surgery to restore the youthful fullness and tension of the lower eyelid region. The muscles are reattached at a deeper level and the fatty tissue of the tear sacs is redistributed and reduced if necessary. This allows the indentation below the tear sac, known as the “tear trough,” to be filled with fatty tissue. After lower eyelid surgery, the eyelids appear youthful and give the face a more harmonious expression.
Here, too, the wound is closed with a fine intracutaneous suture. To prevent severe swelling, a tape bandage is applied, which can be changed after three days if necessary. The suture can be removed after just one week.
Swelling and minor bruising are normal after lower eyelid surgery and, based on experience, tend to last a little longer than after upper eyelid surgery. Both procedures can be performed individually or in combination.
We would be happy to advise you on upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery during a detailed and one-on-one consultation at our private clinic in Duesseldorf.
What are the risks and complications?
Complications are very rare in both eyelid procedures. Sometimes swelling may persist in the lower eyelid area for several weeks. Irritation of the conjunctiva rarely occurs. These symptoms are temporary and usually disappear on their own.
There is a risk of distortion of the lower eyelid margin, known as ectropion. We prevent this with several measures using a special surgical technique.
We would be happy to discuss the most suitable method for you in a one-on-one consultation.
How much does upper or lower eyelid surgery cost?
The prices for upper or lower eyelid surgery vary, starting at € 2,700 for the upper eyelids and € 3,500 for lower eyelid surgery. However, please understand that the exact price of a procedure can only be determined after a detailed consultation and planning by our specialists.
How long does it take to heal after upper or lower eyelid surgery?
The healing process takes about two weeks, but it may take a little longer for lower eyelid surgery. Especially in the first few days after the surgery, allow yourself the necessary rest and avoid physical exertion, keep your head elevated, and cool your eyes with special gel cooling glasses.
In the first week after the procedure, the fine wounds on the lower eyelids must be covered with supportive tape bandages for protection. On the upper eyelids, only the thread loops at the end of the suture are secured with a small plaster. After one week, the sutures can be removed for both surgeries.
How long can scar redness last?
Bruises (hematomas) and swelling may be visible within the first few weeks after the procedure. However, you can cover these with makeup after just one week. Scar redness can last for several weeks.
How long should you refrain from sporting activities after eyelid surgery?
You should not engage in any sporting activities for the first two weeks after upper or lower eyelid surgery. In the first few days after the surgery in particular, you should allow yourself the necessary rest and avoid physical exertion. You should keep your head elevated and cool your eyes with special gel cooling glasses.
How long does upper eyelid surgery in combination with lower eyelid surgery take?
The duration of surgery for upper eyelid and lower eyelid surgery is 1.5 to 2 hours.
Can I wear my glasses or contact lenses after the surgery?
You can wear glasses immediately after the surgery. After lower eyelid surgery, you must not wear contact lenses for the first two weeks.
Is eyelid surgery also possible if I am prone to eczema on my upper eyelids?
Upper eyelid lift is also possible for eyelid eczema. This can improve or even completely eliminate the symptoms.
Can I combine the procedure with other treatments?
Combined treatment, e.g., with a facelift or minimally invasive wrinkle treatments, is easily feasible. We are also your competent partner for this.
We will answer your questions in detail during a non-binding initial consultation.
