Ear correction
Two facial surgery treatment options for protruding ears
Prominent or asymmetrical ears can sometimes lead to teasing during childhood. Adults also often feel insecure, which can lead to low self-esteem. That is why many patients express a desire for inconspicuous, close-fitting ears. With modern techniques, we offer you or your child the opportunity for a new lease on life.
Classic ear correction – with surgery – in Duesseldorf
Classic ear correction (otoplasty) offers the advantage that not only can the ear fold be altered (redefinition of the antihelix fold), but it is also possible to remove or reduce the ear cartilage, for example in cases of malformation.
In addition, we can define the angle formed between the auricle and the head, i.e., the degree to which the ear should lie against the head. As this surgical method has been in use for decades, we can draw on a wealth of experience. Ear pinning can be performed on children from preschool age as well as on adults.
You can trust our competent team of surgeons with many years of experience at our private clinic in Duesseldorf.

Make an appointment nowHow is a classic ear correction surgery performed?
The ear cartilage is shaped using special suture techniques via an incision at the back of the ears. This allows the shape and position of the auricle to be altered. Permanent sutures anchor the ear cartilage or shape it. It is rarely necessary to remove parts of the cartilage. The incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures and a soft, padded bandage is applied for 24 hours.
What type of anesthesia is used for classic ear correction?
We will discuss which type of anesthesia is suitable for you during one of our one-on-one consultations. In principle, the surgery can be performed under either general or local anesthesia. With local anesthesia, twilight sedation can also be administered. For small children, surgery under general anesthesia is recommended. It is also possible for children to stay overnight in our private clinic, accompanied by their parents.
What do I need to bear in mind after the surgery?
After the surgery, a head bandage will be applied for 24 hours for protection. After this, you should wear a headband day and night for 2–3 weeks to protect your sensitive ears from any injury or manipulation. After that, it is recommended that you continue to wear the headband at night for another 2 weeks.
Can complications arise with classic ear correction?
Depending on the initial findings, the shape and position of the ears can be improved very effectively. As with any surgery, bruising and swelling may occur, but these usually heal on their own. Infections of the wound area are very rare.
When can I resume sports activities after the surgery?
After the surgery, you should allow for a recovery period of one week. You should refrain from sporting activities for 6 weeks.
We will answer your questions in detail during a non-binding initial consultation.
Make an appointment nowEarfold® method in Duesseldorf – ear pinning – minimally invasive
This new ear pinning technique allows ear correction without surgery to permanently improve the shape of your ears. The correction is performed by inserting a so-called “clip” under local anesthesia. So that you can see what results to expect before the procedure, our surgeons can simulate the new shape of your ear with a trial clip.
Thanks to this minimally invasive method of ear pinning, no special bandage is required after the treatment.

What is the treatment procedure for an Earfold® procedure?
The surgery is performed under local anesthesia on the ear. This allows the Earfold clip to be placed on the ear cartilage in the position previously planned with you, giving your ear the desired shape. The small incision is closed with dissolvable sutures and a skin-colored plaster bandage is applied to the wound.
A head bandage is not necessary. We recommend wearing a soft headband at night for 2 weeks after the procedure.
Are Earfold® implants or clips well tolerated?
The small, dimensionally stable clips are made of Nitinol coated with 24-carat gold
and are therefore very well tolerated. Because Earfold® clips are so well tolerated, the tiny implant can also be used to correct protruding ears in children as young as seven years old.
What are the advantages of treating protruding ears with Earfold® compared to traditional surgical treatment?
First and foremost, the main advantage of Earfold® is that the patient has a major influence on the final result. Because the Prefold clips are adjusted before the actual procedure, you as the patient determine your future appearance yourself.
As a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia, Earfold® is the gentlest technique for pinning back ears. After the procedure, you will not need to wear a conspicuous bandage, healing is quick, and you will not need to take any time off work.
Can complications arise during treatment?
Depending on the initial findings, the shape and position of the ears can be improved significantly. As with any surgery, bruising and swelling may occur, but these usually heal on their own. Infections of the wound area are very rare. Pain after the procedure is very mild and can be easily treated with over-the-counter medication, if necessary.
When can I resume sports activities after Earfold® surgery?
You should refrain from sports activities for 3 weeks
