Breast lift
Lifting and reshaping of the breast in cases of tissue sagging
The shape of the breast can change over the course of a lifetime. Common causes include pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight fluctuations, or age-related skin changes. Genetic connective tissue weakness or deep-set nipples can also affect the natural contour of the breast.
A breast lift (mastopexy) makes it possible to tighten sagging breast tissue, remove excess skin, and reshape the breast. The nipple is repositioned and the tissue is sculpted to achieve long-term shape stability. Modern surgical techniques allow for scar-saving procedures; existing asymmetries can often be corrected at the same time.
The procedure is performed at our clinic in Duesseldorf under general anesthesia and is individually tailored to the patient’s anatomical conditions and wishes.

During a breast lift (mastopexy), excess skin is removed and the breast is reshaped without significantly reducing its volume. The aim of the procedure is to lift the breast, improve its contour, and achieve lasting shape stability.
The procedure takes about two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. It is usually followed by a short stay at our clinic in Duesseldorf. Blood-thinning medication should not be taken for two weeks prior to the surgery.
Various surgical techniques are available for breast lifts. The choice of method depends on the individual findings and anatomical conditions:
- T-shaped incision: This technique allows sagging tissue to be repositioned and a stable breast volume to be formed from the body’s own tissue. It is often used in more pronounced cases and offers long-lasting shape stability.
- Vertical incision: This scar-saving method avoids an additional scar in the breast fold. It is particularly suitable for moderate tissue sagging and good skin elasticity.
- Periareolar technique: If there is only a small amount of excess skin, the lift can be performed using an incision around the areola. This method is particularly suitable for minor corrections.
The most suitable technique for each individual case will be explained in detail during a one-on-one consultation.
Can a breast lift be combined with breast augmentation?
If the breasts are also considered too small, breast augmentation can be performed as part of a breast lift (mastopexy). An implant is inserted to not only lift the breasts but also to redefine their volume and shape according to the patient’s individual wishes.
Alternatively or in addition, autologous fat can be used to increase volume. A combination of both procedures – known as hybrid breast augmentation – is also possible. The method best suited to each individual case will be explained in detail during a one-on-one consultation.
Breast lift without surgery
As an alternative to surgical breast lift (mastopexy), we offer treatment with radiofrequency technology (BodyTite™ and BreastTite™). The tissue is tightened through targeted heat application without the need for large incisions or visible scars. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia.
However, this technique is not equally suitable for all patients. In a one-on-one consultation, we will determine whether radiofrequency treatment is a suitable option or whether surgery is more advisable.
How do scars develop after a breast lift?
A breast lift (mastopexy) results in scars of varying severity, depending on the surgical technique chosen. Typical incisions are made around the areola, vertically downwards and, if necessary, in the breast fold. The exact scar pattern depends on the individual findings and is discussed in detail before the surgery.
Thanks to modern surgical techniques, the scars can usually be made inconspicuous. They usually appear reddish and slightly raised in the first few months after the surgery, but fade increasingly over the course of about six to twelve months. Consistent scar care can also have a positive effect on their appearance.
How long do the results of a breast lift last?
The results of a breast lift (mastopexy) are usually permanent. However, the tissue is subject to natural aging processes. Factors such as skin elasticity, genetic predisposition, weight fluctuations, or pregnancies can influence the results over time.
With stable skin conditions and constant body weight, the new breast shape often remains unchanged for many years. Careful aftercare and a healthy lifestyle also help to support the treatment results in the long term.
Will the breast become smaller after a lift?
During a breast lift (mastopexy), excess skin is primarily removed, while the glandular and fatty tissue remains largely intact. After the procedure, the breast often appears more compact and firmer without any significant change in volume. In fact, only a small amount of skin is removed, so the breast is hardly any smaller in objective terms.
What should be considered before a breast lift?
Before a breast lift, blood-thinning medication should be discontinued in good time after consultation with the treating physician. It is also advisable to limit or completely avoid alcohol and nicotine consumption before the procedure in order not to impair wound healing.
When will I be able to return to work after the procedure?
As a rule, you will be able to return to work approximately one to two weeks after a breast lift (mastopexy). The exact duration of the recovery period may vary depending on the individual healing process and the type of professional activity.
When can I resume sports, sauna, and solarium activities?
After a breast lift (mastopexy), you should refrain from sporting activities and lifting heavy objects for about six weeks. Sauna visits and solarium should also be avoided during this time so as not to impair wound healing and scar formation.
We will answer your questions in detail during a non-binding initial consultation.
